Chiawana High School
Pasco, Washington
The 338,000 SF Chiawana High School opened in fall of 2009. Housing up to 2,200 students, Chiawana has relieved overcrowding at Pasco High School which had one of the largest student populations in the state. Chiawana is a Native American word meaning “father of water” or “big river.”
The new $66.5 million school includes computer labs, four gyms, an auditorium, a performing arts facility, a student mall area and a career and technical education wing. The site is an 80-acre parcel with contours that required creative site terracing for parking, fields and the high school building. The outside athletic area includes a track with a rubberized running surface and a football field with artificial turf.
